This month we are sharing Sherman Crunchley.  Sherman Crunchley is a police officer whose family has always been the chief of police. Sherman is next in line to be chief when his father retires. The problem is Sherman does not like being a police officer and he cannot say no to anyone. He gets stuck doing all the paperwork and tends not to give tickets when he hears excuses. His favorite thing is his hat collection. His mother asks him to make favors for his father's retirement party. Sherman tries to figure out a way to tell his father he does not want to be chief. Finally he finds a way to do it with the hat favors he makes for the party. Everyone loves their hat and when they are seated for the ceremony the hats spell out a message telling his father he does not want to be the chief. His father laughs and tells him he doesn't really want to retire, he was just doing it to make Sherman happy. So his father remains the chief and Sherman goes into the hat business.

I bought four fun hats at the Dollar Tree for Hazel to decorate. We decided what our message would be and we needed four. I cut out the letters for her. She had fun with her glitter glue.
I helped her with the last two and glued feathers and pipe cleaners on. She got a little more creative once I showed her this.
Once all four were done, I lined them up so we could see the message.
Our message is a simple one, but we picked it after a discussion from reading a book on Martin Luther King, Jr. She couldn't understand how anyone could judge someone on their skin color and thought we should all have large posters of hearts hanging in our houses to remind us to love one another all the time. So we chose love as our message. We will be sharing another Laura Numeroff book next week, so I hope you will come back and join us again. Also we have a giveaway starting tomorrow!!

Now it is your turn. Have you read one of Laura Numeroff's books and done a fun activity or craft with it? Share it in our blog hop!! And stop by all the others shared to see what other books she has written and some wonderful and creative things to do with them.
