With the start of December and Advent, I thought I would share each post where our Mouse and the Miracle Mouse (Holy) has been up to. (He now has an elf friend named Elfie who often is hidden with him.) Also make sure you stop by Multicultural Kid Blogs to read my post on Advent Around the World!
Disclosure: I was sent these items to review free of charge from Happy Heart Kid as part of the Multicultural Kids Product Promotion Services. All opinions in this post are my own. I did not receive any other compensation for this review.
Today I get to share with you a wonderful product from Happy Heart Kid. The product I reviewed is their Empathy Box. This box arrives with four complete activities to help teach your child(ren) about empathy. Hazel loved these activities!!
The activities were very easy to follow and each had a booklet to help you.
The first booklet is the Activity Book. In this booklet was a short story or a mini story as they called it. It gave an example of where a child could show empathy. After the story there was a place to draw a picture of what the reader would do in the child's place. Hazel got to work. The box included a package of eight crayons. The story took place in a sandbox which is what she started to draw.
The booklet also had a word find and a role play activity. My only complaint for the entire box is that our word find was missing a line of letters that had letters of some words, but we figured it out quickly enough.
The next activity was to make a magnet plaque with "empathy" on it. It came with all the stickers, glitter glue, etc. and the magnet for the back of the wood. Hazel loved doing this and it gave us time to talk about what empathy means and different feelings. This discussion lead us into the third activity.
This activity was to make faces (in multi-raced choices) to show emotions given a certain event like doing well in school. The kit came with markers, faces, eyes and clay for the mouths. Hazel loved doing this!!
The final activity was to make felt flowers. The purpose of these flowers is to make them to give to someone who might be celebrating something or feeling sad or sick. We have not decided who to give them to yet, but Hazel wants to make more!
Over all we loved doing the activities and learning more about empathy. I also loved that it gave us time to talk about emotions and how to help others when they are feeling bad. I hope you will stop by Happy Heart Kid and check out their offerings! They have fun ways to teach children about being responsible, kind citizens!
Holy reading The First Christmas Night by Keith Christopher (comparing it to what he remembers of that night!) |
