Did you know that March is National Craft Month? Well, in honor of National Craft Month I am going to review some fun craft books. Today's is Simple Patchwork Gifts by Christa Rolf. Now one of the the first things I love about this book is the fun and simple projects in it. I decided to try a couple projects as handwork. They were easy to adapt as either hand or machine sewing. Since I sewed by hand, Hazel wanted to try as well. The first project I made was the Phone Charm or what we are calling bird ornament.
When Hazel saw mine she wanted to make one too. She picked out the fabrics. We were using unused pieces from my bedroom quilt. These patterns require so little fabric and are fun and easy crafts.
Hazel still needs to put the wings and eyes on hers, but it came out pretty well. We are working on taking smaller stitches and where she did not she is patching up the holes. We are going to make a few of these birds as well as some of the butterflies in the book to hang on Hazel's seasonal tree. We are so ready for spring here. We have been singing the song we learned in the Waldorf Parent/Child class:
The next craft I made was the Pretty Felt Tin. I do not think I found the same kind of tin as was used in the book, but I liked how it came out.
It reminds me of a cake for Hazel's dolls, so we put it in her doll bakery. Hazel loves it! The top still comes off so it can also store some of the tiny pieces back there.
We have been having so much fun with this creative book. The projects in it are adorable and easy to make. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. It is the perfect book to give some fun projects to Hazel as well as make some pretty little gifts.

Spring is coming! Spring is coming! Little birdies build their nests. Weave together twigs and feathers. Each one doing her best.Hazel has been enjoying the song so much she decided to dress up as a bird. At one point she had made a nest out of blankets and were using her stuffed ducks as her babies.
