This week I get to share a fun book to make absolutely adorable animals. The book is Sew Sweet Creatures: Make Adorable Plush Animals and Their Accessories written by Lark Crafts.
As you can see on the cover the animals are wearing clothes and doing different things. They are made from fleece, super soft fleece, felt and/or flannel. Some are handsewn and others allow for machine sewing. We have fallen in love with quite a few of the creatures and I will be making that adorable llama (Anna the Snuggly Llama) on the cover eventually as well as the Fairy Mouse. I started however with James the King of the Jungle. I made him for our friend's second birthday. We had bought him some clothes from Gymboree, but I wanted to give him something he could play with and when he opened the gift he just hugged the lion. As many two-year-olds are he was overwhelmed by all the people and was tired since it was nap time.
James the King of the Jungle is suppose to have safety eyes and a red felt cape, however I know this two-year-old puts everything in his mouth and has issues with choking, so I appliqued on some felt eyes and I figured the cape would not stay on him long and get lost (plus I ran out of time). I did put on the removable crown, but I know it will be lost very quickly (if it hasn't been already). However the lion looks cute without his crown as well.
He is made from that super soft fabric (fleece). I happened to have some yellow leftover from something. His mane is felt. They gave their James an orange mane, but I chose a shade of brown instead. He was sewn on the machine except for his face details and attaching the mane and making the crown.
I literally made him the night before the party. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. The results were adorable.

The projects are adorable, simple and detailed. The instructions are easy to follow and look fun to play with after all who does not want a lumberjack beaver or baker squirrel (on cover). Many of the accessories are made removable. For example the Mouse Fairy's wand is attached with a snap. Some projects are cute and entertaining.

The Adventurer Bear would be great for anyone leaving for a long trip or maybe college. It is complete with map and camera as well as its backpack. There are so many cute ideas and just fun gifts and toys in this book. I hope you will check it out.
