We had so much fun with I Am Amelia Earhart by Brad Meltzer and illustrated by Christopher Eliopoulos. This was the second book that we read from the Ordinary People Change the World Series. Hazel fell in love with Amelia Earhart.
Amelia was a strong woman who followed her dreams and this really appealed to Hazel. In fact when we went to Build-a-Bear to celebrate hers and a friend's birthdays she wanted to dress her animal in the pink pilot outfit that went the Snoopy line. We joked about getting a bear named Amelia Bearhart. Instead she got Amelia Bunnyhart!
Hazel is also wearing her new bomber hat that I made her from a pattern in Sewn Together which we shared a couple of weeks ago in Crafty Weekends. We didn't have an old wool sweater to make the hat so I used regular felt. Plus Hazel would not wear the wool since we are both allergic to wool. I still need to sew on some googles for her.
We also made a puppet like we have for all the books so far. Hazel could not hold all the puppets anymore so we do not have a picture of the six we have done thus far.
This book however shares the story of a strong woman who did not let society stop her from going for her dreams. She is a wonderful role model for young girls everywhere and this book makes her story very enjoyable for children of all ages!
