Did you know there is a National Pet Month? In the UK it is April in and in the US it is May.The first week in May is the AVMA National Pet Week as well. On April 11th you may have had many pet pictures in your Facebook feed since it was National Pet Day. I remember seeing many of them in mine. These are to honor the pets and the love they bring to our lives. In honor of National Pet Month/National Pet Week I thought I would share three new books with dogs as the main characters/topics. Before I share the books though I thought I would share a picture of one of our two cats. This is Pumpkin. Earlier today I found her sleeping on Hazel's Pillow Pet and I thought she looked adorable!!
The first book came out on April 12, 2016. It is From Wolf to Woof! by Hudson Talbott. This book describes the story of how wolves changed into dogs over many decades. It shares the story in a fun and easy way to understand. It describes a wolf who was hungry and befriended a orphan. The two helped each other find food and became friends. Soon other wolves and people became friends. As the animals and people spread the changes to the animals brought the different breeds. It is a fun story and the book also provides resources to find out more about dogs and about saving wolves and wildlife. The author's note discusses myth of origin and discusses this story as a myth with his own spin to it. The illustrations are fun and bring you back in time. The lone wolf and orphan are drawn to look adorable and instantly the reader is attracted to them.
Our second book is Danielle Steele's second book in the Pretty Minnie series. It goes on sale on May 3, 2016. The book is Pretty Minnie in Hollywood and is illustrated by Kristi Valiant. Pretty Minnie is a teacup-sized Chihuahua who lives with Francoise and her family in Paris. Then one day Francoise's mother announces a trip to Hollywood to deliver a dress she designed for an actress. They have an amazing time in Hollywood and Pretty Minnie replaces the dog in the movie due to some behavior issues. There adventure is fun and beautiful and all of the Hollywood glitz, but they are also very happy to be home in the end. This is a fun book. You get the feeling of the Hollywood glam and excitement in the pictures and story. Hazel does not really know much about Hollywood so she asked questions about things in the story but it really opened up learning a bit about it for her.
Our third book is Douglas, You Need Glasses! by Ged Adamson. This book goes on sale on May 17, 2016. Now Douglas is a dog who is nearsighted. He misses many important things because of his sight issue. His owner, Nancy, finally takes him to the eye doctor and they learn Douglas needs glasses. And yes at the eye doctor's there is a section of glasses labeled "Dogs". Although Douglas is a dog this book is really about wearing glasses. It is perfect for any child who wears or needs to wear glasses. It shows the importance of wearing them and being able to see properly. At the end of the book is an inside spread with photographs of children wearing glasses. The pictures in this book are fun and colorful. It is really a great book.
So in honor of National Pet Month/Week/Day, I hope you will take the time to check out these fun dog books!! Enjoy!!
