Do you try to teach your child(ren) about different cultures? I find it so hard to keep up with all the various holidays and celebrations that there are around the world, but also find it important to teach Hazel about it all. I like to supplement what she learns at school and add more about other cultures and religions so that she will have a better understanding of the world. After all if we all had a better understanding of each other perhaps we could live in peace. Well Becky Morales of Kid World Citizen has made it easy for everyone with her new Diversity Calendar of Multicultural Holidays for Academic School Year 2016-2017. It is available at Teachers Pay Teachers for $3.50 for a digital download.
Now Becky is one of my top multicultural bloggers. She is my go to person for information and great posts. She has put together this calendar with all sorts of interesting holidays. Perhaps you didn't know that today is Father's Day in Taiwan or that tomorrow is International Day of the World's Indigenous People. I'll admit that I didn't know. Becky has gathered all this great information for this academic year and listed it in order so you will not miss a chance to celebrate a new culture with your kids. This calendar has something for everyone including International Friendship Day, Elephant Appreciation Day and all the world religion's major holidays. It also includes multicultural and ethnic holidays as well as holidays about friendship and kindness. It is something that is useful for any classroom or homeschool and will help bring cultural awareness to them.
Now I have to add that I once put together a calendar a bit similar for some of my students in a diversity club and it took a very long time to find all the information so having it in one place is such a wonderful resource. I hope you will check it out!!
