Can you believe Father's Day is next week? Are you ready for it? If you need ideas for a DIY gift make sure to check out last week's Crafty Weekends features. Macmillan Publishers sent me some books about fathers for different ages. The first two books are board books for the younger kids. The first is Daddies Are Awesome by Meredith Costain and illustrated by Polona Lovsin.
This board book is a simple and sweet book about how daddies are amazing. All of the illustrations picture a father dog with his puppies. Daddies are playful, caring, daring, brave and strong. The overall feel of the book is love for Daddy.
The next book is Saturday with Daddy by Dan Andreasen. This board book hit a chord with me because we use to sing the days of the week but call Saturday Daddy Day since it was the day Steve was home with us (Sunday was church day, so we didn't think of it as Daddy Day).
This book shares the story of an elephant and his dad getting what they need for a barbecue and ends with a joint nap. It is fun and full of little details like not worrying about spills when eating outside. It is a fun book about a fun day.
Our next book is a picture book. It is Daddy Depot by Chana Stiefel and illustrated by Andy Snair.
In this story Lizzie shares her complaints about her father. You know those little things that drive you crazy about your dad especially when you are a young girl. Then she sees an ad for Daddy Depot and she brings him there to trade him in. As she checks out the other dads she realizes that her father is the perfect one for her.
This book is a fun story with some funny parts and a wonderful lesson about love and acceptance. It is that great lesson about accepting even those annoying parts of family members because you love them and they love you.
Our final book today is a poetry book. It is My Daddy Rules the World by Hope Anita Smith.
This is a wonderful, multicultural book full of poems about dads. The poems share different fun aspects about fathers. They include playful times like playing catch and wrestling to the supportive dad teaching to ride a bike or just has fun with you.
The pictures are abstract with different skin tones. It is just a sweet book that shares a child's love for his/her dad.
So to get ready for Father's Day join me in checking out these books and find the one that speaks to you and your child!! Enjoy!!
