Disclosure: Quarto Knows sent me this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I will admit this is not a total craft this week, but it does have some creativity and with the week I have had, this is the best I could do. Hazel loves having her dolls hair look nice. However she has not really mastered braids or doing hair yet. I got her (and me) this book to get some ideas and learn new tricks to do. It is Twists, Braids, & Ponytails by Joel Benjamin.
This book is written for real hair, but since Hazel's hair is short currently, we decided to try them on her dolls. I started with trying a fishtail braid.
The instructions are fairly easy to follow on most of these hairstyles and there are photographs to help. (I do think some would be easier with real hair though.) I also found a few a bit hard to follow. The next one I tried was the multi-twist ponytail because Hazel really wanted one of her dolls to have it.
I did not loosen the twists quite enough to cover the elastics. This is where I think it might be easier with real hair.
I also tried the halo braid. I did this on Hazel's doll, Barbie, who has very messed up hair and it has layers. This is why it looks a bit messy. The ends of her hair are so bad and I couldn't completely hide them.
Our final hairstyle to share is the inverted braid. I decided to make a bun instead of ponytail at the top.
We have more to try, but this is a good start. How do you like the different styles? Now I can't wait for Hazel to grow out her hair try some of these styles with softer real hair.
So if you are looking for some new hairstyles to try out on your daughter, yourself, or a doll be sure to check out this book!
