Have you discovered Oriental Trading's Fun365? It is a site that has different craft projects and articles. There are choices of Party Ideas, Craft Ideas, Wedding Ideas, and Classroom Ideas. I was inspired by ideas from the Craft Ideas and Party Ideas. I had so much fun exploring the many ideas there. I let Hazel look and help me pick what we would try. In the Party Ideas section there is a Rainbow Party and one of the crafts is a DIY Rainbow Coin Purse. Instead of doing the coin purse we used DIY Totes. (See current available totes here.)I asked Hazel to paint a rainbow on one for me. She wanted to use the Pearlized Acrylic Paint (available paint). Then she wanted to do a heart rainbow, but hers turned out more like a circle. She also did a square but wanted to use the pink on it. I did a heart one for her as well as a star and an H.
Our next project was inspired by the DIY Gnome Place Card Holders, which is part of the Gnome for the Holidays Party. We of course changed the gnome into a fairy. We used pine cones from our yard because the little ones we got for another project were too small to go with the DIY Unfinished Wood Spheres (no longer available, see wooden craft pieces) we got for the heads. We used the Itty Bitty Pom-Poms for crowns. For the wings we used Light Gold Glitter Tulle. We cut a piece and folded the edges in and tightened it with a gold chenille stem. Since we were not making gnomes we needed something for hair. We decided to use some of the Black Lace Ribbon we got for another craft. We have a good collection of chenille stems so we used ones we already had for the arms and legs.
This is the one I made. Hazel started one but stopped to let glue dry and then didn't finish it yet. I hot glued the wooden spheres on to the pine cone and also picked up some wooden discs to use as stands. I hot glued the pine cones to the discs.
We also loved the DIY Colorful Pine Cone Fall Wreath. I made one using the Bag of Pine Cones. However I ran out of pine cones and had to get my supplies out from Hazel's nature stash. If I were to make this again I would get two bags of pine cones. I painted them with the Pearlized Acrylic Paint. I mixed colors to get the orange. I also used some of the Natural Wood Branch Sticks (no longer available) that I got for another craft. I brushed them with Mod Podge and added gold glitter. I also pulled out our painted acorns to fill in holes.
Then I used my hot glue gun to glue it all to a Medium Wreath Frame (no longer available). I ended up doing this several times!! If I did this again I would definitely either use a different type of wreath frame or wrap the frame with burlap ribbon.
I added a fall bow and a ribbon to hang the wreath and am pretty happy with it. I'm still a bit weary about the glue holding, but I like how it looks! I would probably use the DIY Unfinished Wood Large Floral & Craft Rings (no longer available) if I were to make another one and buy at least two bags of pine cones!
I also liked this DIY Wooden Stick Fall Candle. I wanted to make it so it could work for all seasons though. I used the Battery-Operated Round Flameless Candle and the Natural Wood Branch Sticks (no longer available) that are in the tutorial. We decided to use the Black Lace Ribbon (available ribbons) instead of the burlap ribbon. I used ribbons and leaves I had at home and attached them with glue dots.
Then for Christmas we got Ornament Charms. I used some glue (Mod Podge) and glitter inside the charms. I made one with orange glitter and drew on a jack-o-lantern face with a paint marker.
For Christmas I made red and green glitter ornaments.
I also got Nativity Charms and Dark Tassel Charms. See available charms. I came up with two different Christmas looks. I need to get some smaller berries for this one though.
Here is the one with the ornaments.
Then of course I want a candle for the non-holiday season. Hazel and I fell in love with these Silvertone Word Dangles. Available jewelry charms.
I also used a flower we had at home. I will probably add more flowers when it becomes time to use this one!
Our next fun craft was inspired by the Cactus String Art from the Cactus Party. We however did not want to make a cactus. We wanted a bunny. I found a few choices on Goggle and Hazel picked this one.
I bought some small brass nails and hammered them around the picture into the Wood Large Round Centerpiece (no longer available). After removing the paper I had Hazel wrap white embroidery floss around the outside. Then she started wrapping and crossing to fill in the bunny. I did some more for her after she was done. We used less than one skein of floss.
If you choose a curved or detailed picture make sure you use nails at each change and along curves so they show correctly. Here is a close up of our bunny.
Then I glued a flower between the ears. Hazel loves how it looks!
I put two nails into the top of the back side and tied a leather lace to hang the picture. Hazel has it hanging in her bedroom. You can see a bit of the color she picked for her walls recently.
Our final project was inspired by Nativity Scripture Activity. We decided to use the DIY Mini Nativity Set. (See Christmas DIY sets here.) I let Hazel paint them on her own.
It is not perfect, but it is cute.
She left their faces blank.
What I loved about the Nativity Scripture Activity was the various Scripture to read while unwrapping the nativity set each year. (You can download her printable at the tutorial.) I however wanted something for each piece. I came up with these.
You can print them here. Like all my printables they are free and for personal use only. To share them, please send people back to this post. I cut out the Scripture and glued them onto purple (for Advent) construction papers (I cut a sheet into quarters). Then I numbered the cards. The first card goes with Mary. I wrapped the pieces in red tissue paper.
I am going to put the pieces and Scripture cards in her Advent calendar. If she reads these cards in order she will get the entire story from both Luke and Matthew.
