After the crazy March we had weather wise and for Steve work wise, I really needed to get away to somewhere warm. Steve on the other hand just wanted to stay home and rest. We decided Hazel and I would go down to Florida (we have a time share there) and he would stay home. Since we were going to be in Florida we decided we would spend a day at Magic Kingdom and a day at Universal Studios. I found this fabric in my stash. It has beautiful flowers and Minnie Mouse heads on it. I showed it to Hazel and suggested I make a dress for her to wear to Magic Kingdom. I used Butterick Pattern 3860 to make her a dress. Since Hazel wanted to bring two of her dolls with us I thought I would make her doll a matching dress. I checked out the patterns I have downloaded and found one that used the slip pattern from Molly's Pretty Clothes. I didn't put on a ruffle and lengthened the pattern for the dress. I also wanted her doll to have Minnie Mouse ears.

Five years ago I made ears for myself and Hazel as well as ones for Hazel's half birthday party. The tutorial is here. The ears she is wearing in this picture however I bought at Target.

To make the doll headband I was not sure what to use. It took awhile for me to figure it out and then I thought of a plastic cup. You know one of those you get from a company for free. I took a doll headband from American Girl and decided on a large cup.
The first thing I did was cut down the side of the cup and then cut the bottom off.

Next I cut about half an inch ringfrom the cup.

Again I used the American Girl headband to measure and cut about an inch or so away from the ring. I also used a 1-inch circle punch to punch out thin cardboard circles. Next I wrapped the plastic headband with black ribbon. I wrapped the starting end in and glued the finishing end. I used a clothespin to secure the end until the glue dried.

While the glue was drying I took black felt and cut out two dumbbell shapes using my 1-inch cirlces for the ends. Then I glued the cardboard circles to one end of each.

Then I wrapped the felt up with glue on it and glued the other end to the cardboard to create one ear. And I repeated it with the other one as well.

I trimmed the ears a bit after the glue dried as well since my shape was off. Then since it was Minnie Mouse I made a bow out of pink polka dotted ribbon and glued it on.

It is loose on Kit, but it works. It is not as good as the American Girl one but I have yet to figure out what to use to make it stiffer. Hazel was very happy with it. She loved having matching outfits for her and her doll. Plus I love that the fabric isn't overly Disney that she won't want to wear it other times.
