Anyone Can Knit -- a Crafty Weekends Review & Link Party

Lately Hazel has been askign to learn to knit. I have attempted to teach her on my own, but it usually ends in a fight. My mother helped her a bit with it awhile ago, but Hazel hasn't really practiced and thus hasn't kept it yet. However I was excited to get Anyone Can Knit by Libby Summers in hopes it would help her. 

Now I received this book quite awhile ago and shared it with Hazel one of the times she asked me to teach her. However she could not figure things out on her own from it. I put it aside and honestly forgot about it. I recently pulled it out and realized I hadn't shared it yet. I decided to check it out and check out some of the knitting skills I don't have. I can knit and purl but not do much else. This book starts with casting on and has eighteen projects and skills like stripes, bobbles, cables, holes and more. It explains how to read a pattern and so much more. There are sections on correcting mistakes and sizing and grading. Basically this book has photo tutorials for all parts of creating a knitted project. 

I decided to try the Ella Maria or Mini Tote Bag. I knitted up a sample of the front, but made some mistakes. When I tried to correct something I managed to drop a stitch and definitely am still working on my eyelets. However I do love the picot edge.

I will also admit I didn't necessarily read in as much detail some of the steps when I should have since I know how to knit. I definitely should have read a bit more of the basic steps. 

Anyway, I find this book to be easy to follow and understand. The detail is put into the steps and with clear explanations and wonderul photographs. I also love the variety of projects offered. Many of the projects use Libby Summers's own brand of yarn. As someone who is allergic to wool, I found I did not have any of hers and substsituted with cotton yarn. Overall I think this book is perfect for anyone who wants to learn to knit or wants to build his/her knitting skills like me. I am sure once Hazel has learned the basics of knitting she will find this book useful. It is a wonderful resource for any knitter.
