Fairy Mom and Me

Disclosure: Penguin Random House sent me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Looking for a entertaining middle grade novel that has lessons about patience and working together and family? Fairy Mom and Me by Sophie Kinsella and illustrated by Marta Kissi is a great one and it is perfect with Mother's Day coming up!

In this funny book Ella Brook has a secret. Her mother is a fairy and when she grows up Ella will be one as well. All the women in her mother's family are fairies. There is one problem. Ella's mother is not a very good fairy. She is always messing up the spells. It is often up to Ella to figure out how to get things back to normal. Throughout the stories there are lessons as well. Things like learning to be patient and work together. There are illustrations throughout the various chapters as well.

This book is perfect for beginning chapter readers or to be read as a family. There are discussion questions and family activities at the end of the book to help bring more to family time. This is such an entertaining book it will have everyone laughing together.

Plus there are benefits to reading aloud as a family. For the children it helps with cognitive development and reduces behavior problems (even in kids who can read to themselves). For parents it decreases parental stress and depression. Plus books help with vocabulary more than even having conversations with our kids. (Source) I know Hazel loves when I read a book with her. We often take turns reading them. Do you still read to your middle grade kids? I hope you will check out this fun book.
