Disclosure: I was sent these books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Do you have a child who loves picture books? Or maybe you are looking for something to spark his or her imagination this summer. I have a picture book for every child and they are full of creativity and imagination as well as other fun ideas. Our first book is An Atlas of Imaginary Places by Mia Cassany and illustrated by Ana de Lima.
This book is a look into Mia Cassany's imagination. She describes the magical places she dreamed as a child. The places one only sees for a short moment but often remembers forever. They are creative and magical and definitely not real. It is beautifully illustrated and the pictures are colorful and fun just as the places are. This is the perfect book for young dreamers. Check out some of the other atlases we have reviewed.
Our next book shares a strong princess who is not your typical frilly dress princess. The book is The Princess and the Pit Stop by Tom Angleberger and illustrated by Dan Santat. When this princess stops for a pit stop her fairy godmother informs her that she is in last place in the race. What does the princess do? She hits the gas and gives it all she has. What I love about this book is all the classic story characters that the princess is racing. There are characters from Humpty Dumpty and Cinderella as well as so many others that we all know and love.
The illustrations in this book are fun and give the reader the sense of the craziness of a race. This book is great for kids who love action as well as the ones who love the classic fairy tales and nursery rhymes. It is a high action and colorful book packed full with lots of fun. Be sure to check out our other posts on princess books.
Our next book involves color as well as a look at differences and learning to live with those that are different. It is Mixed: A Colorful Story by Arree Chung.
In the beginning there were three colors and they were happy until one color decided it was better than the others. Then they lived separately until a yellow met a blue and fell in love. They even had a child who they named green. The others were fascinated and soon started mixing more.
This book introduces color mixing as well as a bit about accepting differences. Life is more colorful when we have differences. Both are great lessons for young children. Be sure to check out our color posts as well.
The World Cup ended on Sunday. France won. Did you watch the game? Are you missing the soccer? Our next book helps bring it back a bit and will help your kids learn more about following dreams. It is Neymar: A Soccer Dream Come True by Mina Javaherbin and illustrated by Paul Hoppe.
This book is about the childhood of Neymar da Silva Santos Junior. This book is fun and child-friendly. It shares the story of Neymar's childhood and his love of soccer. It shows him wanting to play all the time and even making mistakes and wanting to learn more.
The illustrations are fun and show the excitement of childhood as well as a bit of culture from Brazil. Neymar dreamed of being a soccer star and he was able to achieve his dream. He is a role model for many children. The book shares the importance soccer is and his family is in his life. Be sure to check out our review of Mina Javaherbin's other soccer book.
Our next book is a bit silly and fun. It is perfect for a child who is starting to lose his/her teeth. It is How to Trick the Tooth Fairy by Erin Danielle Russell and illustrated by Jennifer Hansen Rolli.
In this fun multicultural book a young girl is a big prankster and she decides to prank the tooth fairy when her first tooth comes out. But guess what? The tooth fairy is also a big prankster and she gets even. The two keep going until it is complete chaos.
The pictures are colorful and fun. I love that the young girl is diverse. The book is full of fun and creative ideas and pranks. Plus apparently the tooth fairy finds a friend in the end. Be sure to check out the other fairy books we have reviewed as well as our fairy crafts!
Our next book is a big secret. The question is who shared the secret? Afterall the reader found the secret book. The book is Don't Tell by Tom Booth.
The book is rather simple, but fun. It has a girl and many animals in it. They are trying to figure out who told the secret about the book. And they are not mad at the animal that admits to sharing the secret. Afterall some secrets are just too good not to share. Be sure to check out our review of Booth's other book as well.
Who do you think told the secret? It is a fun mystery for younger kids and the animals are interesting.
Our final book is Brave Enough for Two by Jonathan D. Voss. Olive and Hoot are best friends. Hoot loves adventures, but Olive does not. However one day Hoot takes Olive on one. He is brave enough for both of them until he isn't and then it is Olive's turn to be brave. It is a fun book about friendship and stepping out of your comfort zone.
It is a fun book with lots of creativity and adventure. Hoot and Olive are cute as well. I love that they each get a turn to be the brave one and push the other past his/her fears.
We enjoyed these picture books. They each have their own creativity and more. I hope you will check them out. I know there is something here for everyone.
