We enjoyed a few days visiting the very western part of our state. We finally took Hazel to the Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum. We promised her a couple of years ago we would take her. Then we saw a few natural wonders and relaxed at the pool. I didn't have a lot of time for crafting, but want to share with you a fun book to make kids' felt toys. It is Kids' Felt Cuties by Kim Layton.
This book has fun projects in it starting with the adorable garden project on the cover. Hazel would have LOVED that when she was younger. It also would go great with the farmers' market she use to set up. Every once in awhile she still pulls out the creative play sets like the farmers' market or the teddy bear doctor clinic. The projects in this book are definitely more geared to younger kids and lots of creative play. There are nine projects in the book--simple flower crown, floral headband, star wand, jeweled crown, garden crate (the one on the cover), piggy coin bank, masks, fishing game, and taco plushie.

To see how the instructions and patterns are in the book I decided to make the piggy coin bank. As I mentioned I was a bit short on time so I went for an easy project. The pattern for the piggy coin bank was full sized. Some of the patterns need enlarging however.
I did it rather quickly, but the instructions were simple. In the back of the book there are general instructions as well as instructions for four different types of embroidery stitches. Hazel could easily make the projects in this book for the most part on her own, which I love!! The projects themselves are fun. There are the ones seen everywhere like the crowns and wand, but there are also other new ideas. If you made them with wool felt, the crowns and wand would be perfect for Waldorf education. I wish I had the patterns when Hazel was in the Waldorf school. The floral headband would work well for a Waldorf May Day celebration as well.

How fun is the taco plushie? It is made with the pieces glued in. I didn't try it, but am thinking it might be fun to have the kids be able to stuff it themselves over and over. It is 15-inches by 10-inches though, so more a pillow size.
The magnetic fishing game is fun too. I love the creative sea life that is made for the game. The various fish are wonderful and I love the coral and seaweed as well. It really takes the idea to another level. It is certainly fancier than the one I made Hazel when she was young.
