When you go to a musuem do you ever wonder how things are made? The Victoria and Albert Museum have put out A Maker's Guide Series. I shared with you the Patchwork and Quilting book back in July. Today I am sharing the other two books. I am going to start with Embroidery: A Maker's Guide by the Victoria and Albert Museum.
This book shares various types of embroidery as well as some of the pieces in each type. Then it has fifteen projects to try. The book starts with an introduction as well as materials and tools and a stitch guide.
The types of embroidery are counted-thread and canvas work, freestyle embroidery, whitework, embellishments, and contemporary embroidery. Each section has beautiful photographs of the artwork from the museum as well information about it and the technique to make it.
It is informative and beautiful. I love learning about the techniques and the history of the pieces. I also love the projects that they came up with to go with the various techniques. I have not tried the projects yet, but the instructions are step by step with many photographs. They look easy enough to follow.
This book brings back my desire to get stitching. For awhile I was very into cross-stitch but I haven't done it in a very long while. I think it is time to start a new project.
The manners in which to craft with paper are folding, cutting, sticking and forming. They include crafts like origami, paper cutting and so much more.
Then there are fifteen fun projects to try. I love the variety in them. There are things from making paper to making a paper cut silhouette. Again I have not tried any yet, but love the ideas and the instructions are very detailed with many photographs.
Now to find all my paper tools and materials to get started on some of these fun projects. I hope you will check out both of these amazing books. Learn a bit about art in a museum and then have a go at some of the techniques at a beginner's scale. They are so fun!!
