It's Raining Cat and Dog Books

Well it is raining out, but inside I'm surrounded by cat and dog books literally. Last week we celebrated National Cat Day and somehow I didn't get this review written in time. So sorry. I did celebrate by sharing these previews of Statement Canvas Wall Art on my Thirty-One Facebook page. Today I am sharing with you a collection of cat and dog (and one pet) book. They are for a variety of ages and some are fictional and some are nonfiction and there is even a craft book. First we will start with a picture book called Bad Dog by Mike Boldt. 

In this book a young girl shares that she got a dog for her birthday but tells the reader how her dog is not a good dog. However by the end she does admit that her new pet is a pretty good cat. Probably because she got a cat for her birthday. She does learn to love her little kitty.

This book is recommended for ages 3 to 7. It is a fun book and has some humor to it. After all the girl is mixing up a cat and a dog. It has some funny points and the illustrations are cute as you can see in the sample page. It is definitely one for the younger kids. 

Our next book is from National Geographic Kids. It is Little Kids First Big Book of Pets by Catherine D. Hughes. Here is a book that talks about animals and teaches which are pets and which are not. Then it has separate chapters about dogs and cats as well as a chapter about other small furry pets and then a chapter about other pets like birds, reptiles, amphibians and fish.  The photographs are amazing as one expects from National Geographic Kids and there are fun facts and interactive questions throughout it.

The book also has games at the end of chapters as well as parent tips with activities to do with children. It is a fun and resourceful book. Perfect for those kids who love animals and want a pet. 

Our next book is for all the cat lovers out there who have cats and want to explore some science. It is also from National Geographic Kids. It is Cat Science Unleashed by Jodi Wheeler-Toppen and photographs by Matthew Rakola. Similar to Dog Science Unleashed which I shared awhile ago, this book shares interesting facts about cats as well as activities to do with your own cat. The book is divided into four chapters: Fit Felines, Sensational Senses, Purrfect Predators and Clever Kitties. There is an introduction and how to use the book as well as a glossary and more information about cats. The pages are full of fun facts, amazing photographs and different activities to learn more about your pet. 

This book is recommended for ages 8 to 12. It is packed full of science, fun and cats!

Our next two books somewhat go together. They are Cat Breed Guide by Stephanie Warren Drimmer and Dr. Gary Weitzman, D.V.M. and Dog Breed Guide by T.J. Resler and Gary Weitzman, D.V.M. They are both recommended for ages 8 to 12. 

These books have chapters about the respective animal and what it is. Then there is a chapter or chapters about the various breeds. The cat book has two breed chapters: Shorthairs and Longhairs. Then there is a chapter about owning the respective animal. There also is a glossary and more information. 

The pages are full of information, facts and more. Then they get specific about the various breeds of the animals. There is so much packed into these books and are amazing reference books for cats and dogs.

Throughout both books there are pages of information about the animals and specific stories. There are things like dogs who work and more. These books will be loved by animal lovers.

Our final book is a cat craft book. It is The Cat Lover's Craft Book by Neko Shugei. 

The crafts in these books are divided into two parts--Palm-Sized Cats and Everyday Cats. They have everything from buttons and brooches to bags and pillows. The crafts are all sorts of different skills like cross stitch, sewing, knitting  and more. It truly has crafts for everyone that loves cats. 

When I was single I went through a huge cat phase. After all my best friend was my cat, Simba. I even found cat lace curtains for my living room. People gave me all sorts of cat themed things. In fact I still have some cat teapots and cat snow globes in my collections. This book would have been amazing during that phase. I would have made all of them!

The crafts are fun and unique. There are so many different ideas. I did start a cat pouchette, but haven't finished it. I did find the instructions clear and easy to follow. It is a knitting project. I was fine making it except when Hazel made me lose count of my rows. Ugh! But the important thing is the patterns and instructions are easy to follow and use.
