Did you know March is National Craft Month? With all of us safe at home for weeks at a time we need some things to occupy our time. Today I am sharing three craft books that focus on embroidery! I am planning on sharing more craft books over the next week or so! Stay tuned!!
Our first book is Free Spirit Stitching: 8 Vibrant & Colorful Stitching Adventures by Debra Valencia. In this book Debra Valencia shares eight projects to try with different uses including pillows, wall hangings and more. After presenting the projects the book shares some basics from fabrics and tools to pictorial tutorials of different stitches. Then it shares different methods to transfer embroidery designs followed by the embroidery designs. The instructions are clear and well written. The projects have a lot of variety so there will be something for everyone.
I love the colorful projects that are so happy. The patterns include birds, hearts, love and more. Here are some of the samples of the projects in this book.
Overall Free Spirit Stitching is a fun, embroidery book that uses items many crafty homes will have in stock. It is definitely something that will keep you busy during your time at home!
Our net book is 10 Easy Stitches: Embroider 30+ Unexpected Projects by Alicia Burstein. This book starts with the basics--fabric and tools, transferring patterns, displaying projects, and then tutorials of the ten stitches that are used in the book. The stitches are straight stitch, backstitch, stem stitch, split stitch, chain stitch, satin stitch, French knots, lazy daisy, blanket stitch and woven wheel or rose. The instructions are very clear and the stitches are explained very well.
After all the instructions come the projects. They are divided up by Wear It, Use It, and Hang It. Wear It includes adding embroidery to clothing with everything from collars to jeans and shoes. Use It has projects like ornaments, book covers, grocery bags, stuffies and more. Hang It includes projects like the mandala dreamcatcher on the cover, nursery art and more. Here are some of the projects in the book.
This book has really neat projects to add to things you may have at home as well as decorative ones. I love that they use just ten stitches. It even has a project to immortalize a child's simple sketch. There is so much you could do and these projects will definitely keep you busy.
Our third book is Beaded Embroidery Stitching by Christen Brown. This book takes stitches and adds beads, buttons, and more. It starts with an introduction to beaded embroidery. It shares some stitches and information about it all then goes into the materials and more. Then comes the tutorials for the stitches. There are a lot of stitches and these tutorials are good. Adding beads to embroidery definitely requires even more patience. However the beauty makes it worthwhile. Here are some of the projects shared in the book. Aren't they beautiful?
