The ABCs of Black History--Upcoming book to teach young children about Black History!

Disclosure: I was sent a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Last week I did our last Black Lives Matter Series post and said I was going to focus on Native Americans but this book passed my way and I have to share it with you. This book is coming out in December 8, 2020. The book is The ABCs of Black History by Rio Cortez and illustrated by Lauren Semmer.

The suggested age for this book is 5 and up. I would say it could be read to even younger kids. The book goes through the alphabet giving a word or words that start with each letter and in a poetic way talk about Black history and Black people.

The illustrations are fun and colorful and there is history throughout the pages including people like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, Mae Jemison, and so many more.

The mention of the history is not in depth but gets the names and events out there for kids to learn and start researching. But in the back of the book there is a terms and figures section which gives a little more details as well as a bit more history.

This book opens the door for younger children to learn about Black history and begin asking questions. It is truly an amazing book full information but presented in a fun and easy to read manner.

This is a book that should be in every lower elementary classroom. Let's start teaching them about Black history and that Black lives matter when they are young!
