Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
With life in such turmoil during this pandemic I have found it more important to turn to God. Our church is only doing Zoom services so it has been hard to feel connected at times. I have turned to my devotionals and other books. Today I am sharing a book that helps the reader understand the book of Proverbs better. It is called In Search of Wisdom: Life-Changing Truths from the Book of Proverbs by Joyce Meyer.
In this book Joyce Meyer goes through each Proverb and relates the words to everyday life. She claims the book of Proverbs is about seven foundational principles: wisdom, understanding, prudence, knowledge, discretion, discernment, and fear of God. She shows the reader where these principles are in each chapter as well as shares the lessons that are in each verse. It is powerful and makes understanding the words of the Bible easier and gives us a guide to live by.
Meyer gives us a breakdown of what the words mean and how they apply to our own lives. There is much in Proverbs about adultery and not to do it. There is much about listening to wisdom and gaining knowledge. I love how she personalizes it with her own stories and each has questions that apply to your own life. For example in the chapter on Proverbs 3 she asks, "Can you think of any troublesome areas in your life that could have been avoided if you have followed wisdom?" These questions always relate to what she is writing about and are in gray boxes to the side of the text. Throughout the readings she draws on other scripture and shares the messages that are throughout the Bible and how they relate to Proverbs.
With thirty-one Proverbs this book is wonderful for a sort of devotional or lessons and it will get the reader through the book of Proverbs. It is a wonderful task to read the entire book of Proverbs and even better when you have this companion book to understand and institute the lessons of Proverbs into you life. My plan was to review this book earlier and share it as a wonderful book for Lent. With the thirty-one chapters giving you a few days off for when life happens. Unfortunately life happened for me the past few week and I didn't get my review written. However this book is perfect for any time and it will bring the Bible into your life with a better understanding of a book of it that is meant to be instructions to live your life in the manner that God wants us to. I hope you will check it out.
