November is always an interesting month for me. Halloween is over and fall is winding down. It is a month of thankfulness and Native American themes. Of course, I feel all year should be full of thankfulness and Native American themes, but that is a different topic. In November we also prepare for the gift giving holiday season, whatever ones you celebrate. In my house we also begin to prepare for a birthday party and this year she is turning 13--officially a teenager! So this month will be full of posts having to do with Native American themes (like this one), preparing for the holidays (including my holiday gift suggestion list) and of course holiday (including Thanksgiving) crafts and more. Stay tuned for some Native American and Christmas book reviews as well!
Last year for Native American Month I introduced you to some Native American business owners. I actually started with my inspiration for the month by sharing some new posters from Aaron Carapella of Tribal Nations Maps. They were about Indigenous Women. I will be sharing his newest posters today. From there I introduced you to Diane Tells His Name and her beautiful dolls and Rachel Sage Carapella of Native Sage Nutrition. Then I shared one of Aaron's puzzles--yes, he has other products besides posters!! Although this year I have a different idea of what I want to do for Native American Month based on a book I shared over the summer, I still wanted to share Aaron's new section of beautiful posters--Notable Native Americans. I personally am most excited for these posters. When I taught and ran diversity clubs I would have loved to have these in my classroom and school hallways. I was always looking for posters like these. Now Aaron's posters have options. First you choose the material: poster, canvas or stretched canvas and second you choose the size 16"x20" or 18"x24". Notable Native Americans currently has eighteen people to pick from. Some you probably have heard of like Sitting Bull. However there are others you may not have heard of at all which is what I'm most excited about. I always love learning about new people in history and especially Native Americans. Later this month I am sharing about six of these people over at Multicultural Kid Blogs. So today I am going to share just about the actual posters.
Each poster has the Notable Native American's name in their language and/or English, the years they lived, their tribal nation (in native language and/or common name) and a short biography as well as a photograph or illustration of the person. The people range in gender and the time range is from the 1700s-1900s. The people include leaders, athletes, writers, and more! Although I have not actually had one of these Notable Native American posters I have reviewed one of the Tribal Nations Maps and can speak very highly of the quality. The posters and maps are of the highest quality.
These posters are so interesting. They honestly makes me want to learn more about each of the Notable Native Americans. These posters would be wonderful to decorate a classroom or to use to help kids choose a Native American to study for a project. It is so important for our children to see heroes from every race, gender, etc. and these posters help fulfill the Native American nations.
