Crafty Moms Share: Alycat and the Cattywampus Wednesday -- Review & Giveaway

Have you ever had one of those days where everything seems to be all mixed up? Today I am sharing a new picture book with a young cat that experiences one of those days and bonus the book has cattywampus in the title! Great vocabulary word for you and for kids! The book is Alycat and the Cattywampus Wednesday by Alysson Foti Bourque and illustrated by Chiara Civati. There is also a giveaway and cat craft round-up to go with the book!

About the Author:

Award-winning author Alysson Foti Bourque is a certified elementary education teacher and earned a law degree from the Southern University Law Center in 2007. After practicing law for six years, she traded writing trial briefs for writing children’s books. Alysson collaborates with non-profits to support philanthropic initiatives and enjoys speaking with children and teachers at schools and libraries, where she is accompanied by the life-size Alycat mascot.

From Me:

Let's start with how adorable Alycat is as well as the other cats in the book. Alycat in her red dress and shoes with her red bow is just so cute! She wakes up one Wednesday and discovers her day is all mixed up. Her mother serves dinner for breakfast. Her bus is full when she is usually the first stop. Her school day is all backwards as well, and then there is breakfast for dinner. Throughout the day Alycat is confused and trying to figure out what is happening. She finds when she is confused that her friends can help and so can going with the flow.

I see kids loving the mixed up or cattywampus day. I can see a class laughing as a teacher reads this story aloud. I love how it relates Alycat's day to a day in our life when things seem to be going wrong. It can lead to a discussion about what to do when you feel like your day is not going well. Plus, at the end of the book Alysson gives the definition of cattywampus as well a list of ideas of what to do when you are feeling like your day isn't going your way. This book is fun and will be a great addition to any lower elementary classroom or home library. I hope you will check it out!
