As a former teacher and someone who has volunteered and worked at my daughter's school, I know there is always that child that thinks outside the box and sees the world in a different way. The child does not want to do anything wrong and probably does not even think he or she is doing something wrong but drives the teacher crazy. This book is fun. The main character is wearing a cat hat and is called Meow because of it. We do not know the gender of the character. Meow is the student who doesn't get standing in line and would rather dance. Meow is the student who can't sit still. Meow is the student who listens but doesn't think about the rules in the same way. What I love about this book besides the humor is that Meow solves a problem in a different way than most adults would. Meow's teacher realizes that Meow is listening to the rules and what she says but interprets it differently. There is good to seeing the world in a different way and we need to honor the people who do. I love this message!! Kids will love the book because it is fun and funny. Adults will appreciate the other messages that are there. This book is truly written for kids as well as their adults.
Since the main character wears a cat hat, I thought it would be fun to do a cat head craft. I found an easy origami tutorial to follow (see the video below). I think younger kids will be able to make this craft. Here are two I made.
