From Me:
This book is absolutely beautiful! The paintings are so wonderfully done. They take you right to the savannah. The details are wonderful on the animals. The poems are about the activities the animals actually do. There is actually quite a bit of information given about the animals. At the end of the book there are blurbs about each of the animals featured in the book as well. This book is perfect for any African animal unit in lower grades or just to read with a child.
The book takes us through a day of a safari. It shares the various animals and what they are doing that may be seen. It begins with sunrise and ends in the dark of night. It has many animals beginning with a family favorite--flamingos. It has storks and a newborn gazelle. It also talks about zebras, gazelles, wildebeests, ostriches, elephants, giraffe, cheetahs, rhinos, egrets, topi, meerkats, hippos, and more. Honestly reading this book reminded me of the days of us watching The Wild Kratts. As you can see this book brings so much of these animals alive for kids in a sweet way. The paintings are sweet, and the words are fun. The animals are full of action from hunting to hiding and so much more. I absolutely love this book and hope you will check it out. I know animal lovers will appreciate it as will anyone who just wants to share a beautiful picture book with a child or more that they love.
There are so many crafts one could do with this book. A fun thing would be to knit the safari for kids to act out the book. Of course, there are many safari animal crafts floating around. Here are some that we have shared in the past.
