Christmas is coming up fast!! This year I have two fun new picture books to share with you. One is a wonderful one that shares the spirit of the season and the other shares a real Icelandic tradition. The first book is Season of Light by Jess Redman and illustrated by Raymond Kaulitzki. It is recommended for ages 3 to 6.

This book shares so much of what makes the holiday season special. It is definitely for a younger child. The words are simple, and the illustrations are beautiful. It shares about the story of Jesus' birth, about the music, about the love of gathering and gifts and so much more. It is a time of joy, peace, faith, love and hope. This book reminds me of the season.
I envision it being shared with young ones and talking about the feelings, sights, sounds, and traditions of the holiday season whether with parents or a group. I hope you will check it out!
The second book is The Christmas Book Flood by Emily Kilgore and illustrated by Kitty Moss. It is recommended for ages 4 to 8. It shares the real Icelandic tradition of giving books on Christmas Eve and spending the night reading.

Now I had heard of the book giving and book reading tradition of Iceland. I will admit curling up to a good book on Christmas Eve sounds wonderful. Can you imagine giving your kids a book they want to read and having them go off to their rooms to read? This book shares this wonderful tradition. It shares the love books as well a bit about Iceland and its culture. I have to admit I think this is one of my favorite Christmas traditions I have heard.
The book shares the magic of the tradition as well as the season. It talks about how people search for the perfect book to gift loved ones. It shares the wonder of opening a new world with a book. Whether the book is read individually or together a new adventure begins.
At the end of the book is a note from the author telling how she discovered about this tradition and had to learn more and share it. I love that this book shares a bit of culture from another country with younger children. I hope you will check it out!
