ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Drew Palacio grew up in Mendocino County, California. He received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology in San Francisco and currently practices in Kansas. Clinically, he implores partnership and efforts from local families, schools, and the community. Lastly, Dr. Drew is himself a child a heart, using his love of magic and worldly mystery, whether via comic books, animation, video games, or through the passing daydream, to always stoke his inspiration.
From Me:
Ever have one of those moments where you are unsure what to wear? Everything you try on doesn't feel right? Then you get nervous about doing the wrong thing? Maybe they won't like me because I did that. Yup, it is one of those days for Emily Soo and her reflection is making it worse. Her reflection is that inner voice that puts doubt into everything she does. She has to figure out how to fight the negativity and doubt.
This book is amazing for so many different ages. Let's face it we all have those days. As I read the story it reminded me a bit of the comments Hazel was making with the start of high school. I love how the book deals with a real life issue that everyone experiences at some point and makes it more of a regular thing and gives a solution to it. This book is wonderful because it not only shows a problem everyone has but also shows ways to fight the negativity and voices in our heads. Although it can be hard to fight the negativity, it is possible and the book truly shows this. It is suggested for ages 4+ but I would say slightly older so the reader will understand the dilemma and perhaps have experience with it.
This book is perfect for reading at home when a child is having one of those days or to help develop the skills to overcome it when it does happen. It is also a great book for a class to read and discuss the feelings and solutions to overcome the negativity. I hope you will check it out!
All Julien J. wants to do is read his comic book in peace, but when distractions interrupt him time and time again, his frustration boils over. Julien kicks at the ground, he yells, he cries, and when the dust settles, he can't believe what he sees-Bluebullet, the hero from his comic book, is standing right in front of him!
Learn what Bluebullet has to say about working through the most frustrating moments like a true superhero!
From Me:
Have you ever needed a moment of quiet and being alone? It is usually in that moment that everyone wants your attention. Or perhaps it is in that moment that you notice all the annoying things around you because they are not want you want/need then. This book deals with a boy in this moment. He can't wait to read his new comic book, but the animals have something to say about it. His frustration becomes overwhelming.
This award winning book shares ways to stay calm and work through the frustration. It explains how getting so worked up really only affects you and how to try to calm yourself. These are skills everyone needs and if they can be taught early the more success the person will have. This book is also perfect for reading at home or in a class. Teach the children how to deal with the frustration that often comes and can boil over to cause more issues.
