Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Today I am sharing with you a fun growth mindset activity book. The book is part of the Kayla: A Modern-Day Princess series. It is Kayla: A Modern-Day Princess Activity Book by Deedee Cummings and illustrated by Charlene Mosley. The series is recommended for ages 4 to 8.
From the Publisher:
Our world is very loud and growing louder all the time. This activity book is designed to help kids develop a growth mindset and a positive identity about themselves. A mentally healthy mindset can help address anxious and stressful thoughts and feelings. The activity book includes:Over 50 coping skills woven throughout the book,
- More than 25 beautifully illustrated coloring sheets,
- Helpful therapeutic messages for kids,
- Motivational mindset techniques to address stress,
- And more than one dozen growth mindset worksheets.
Kids can read this book on their own, or they can work through it with a family member or another trusted adult. This book is a meaningful and fun time capsule children can save and look back on as they dream and grow. The entire Kayla series is inspired by the life of Broadway Star Kayla Pecchioni. It can be gifted with books from the series, but this helpful guide also stands alone as a fun way for children to learn about themselves and the world around them.
Deedee Cummings is a professional dreamer. She is also an author, therapist, attorney, and mom from Louisville, Kentucky. The books she writes focus on hope, diversity, social justice, and therapeutic skills for children and adults. Her work has been featured in HuffPost, Forbes, NPR, USA Today, Essence Magazine, Psych Central, Well+Good, and The EveryGirl, among other media outlets. Deedee is also the founder of Make A Way Media and The Louisville Book Festival. She believes literacy is a fundamental human right. Her work highlights inspiring messages that remind us all it is never too late to begin again. Cummings founded Make A Way Media in 2014 after struggling to find books with characters who looked like her own children and an extreme lack of stories that reflected their life experiences. Follow Deedee on Instagram for fun and informative updates as she continues to chase her dreams and bring them to life.
From Me:
This book is full of pages to color, places to record memories, puzzles, as well as growth activities. The book is based off of Deedee Cumming's Kayla: A Modern Day Princess. These books are multicultural about a Black young girl. The activity book has pages about diversity, empathy, dreaming, self-esteem, being a better human, and so much more. There are crossword puzzles, word searches, and coded messages as well as messages about believing in yourself and following your dreams. It is such an uplifting activity book and also a great way to record what is happening in a child's life and where he or she is at during that time. It introduces a growth mindset to kids and really shows kids what that means.
I can see this book as a wonderful gift for any child. The child could work on it by himself/herself or work through it with an adult. I also see it as a book a parent or grandparent would love to work through with a child. It is also a great way to talk about diversity as well as being kind and taking care of others as well as our planet. This book has so much in it that all kids should learn. I hope you will check it out!
