Little Red Driving Hood and the Three Repairs -- Book Review & Giveaway

Disclosure: I was sent a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I am working with The Children's Book Review and Stacey Rayz to bring you this post and giveaway.

I always love sharing new versions of fairy tales. It has been a long time since I shared a Fairy Tale from a Different Culture. Although Little Red Riding Hood was not one of the fairy tales we shared from different cultures, we have shared some various versions of it previously. Today we are sharing a modern multicultural version of it. It is Little Red Driving Hood and the Three Repairs by Stacey Rayz and illustrated by Nenad Taskov. There is a giveaway at the end of this post!

From Me:

I am all for a good fairy tale redo. And I'm all for a story of a strong girl. This book is both!! In this sweet story Little Red works with her mom in the garage fixing cars. Her mom sends her to help her grandmother with her broken van. On the way Red runs into Baby Wolf whose toy car won't work. Red tries to fix it but isn't able to. Next Red runs into Mama Wolf whose car isn't starting. Again Red tries to fix it but has a problem. Next Red runs into Big Bad Papa Wolf. His car is broken down and he is mad that he has to pick up Mama Wolf and Baby Wolf after Red was unable to fix their cars. He threatens to eat her if she doesn't fix his car. She is stressed but tries and then she finds her mom's fix anything with wheels manual and follows the directions and she fixes it! Everyone is happy.

The story is cute. Amongst the tale there are hints to Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, and Goldilocks. I love that it is a multicultural book--Little Red is Black. I love that she and her mom fix cars, vans, and SUVs. It is a fun version to the classic tale that often has a weak leading lady. This one stars a strong young lady who wants to help others and does atypical female job. It sends a strong message and opens up a great conversation with students who may have some job prejudices as to what females versus males do. This book is perfect for reading at home or in a classroom. We often do not see many female mechanics, but this book helps put the idea out there. I hope you will check it out.
