Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
With the hot weather around the nation, it feels like the dog days of summer have come very early this year! Today I get to share a beautiful picture book about Emma, a dog full of dreams. The book is Emma Full of Wonders by Elisha Cooper. It is recommended for ages 3 to 6. I shared Elisha Cooper's Caldecott Honor Book with you previously.
From the Publisher:
Emma is a big dog with a lot of little dreams. She dreams of a cool roll in the grass, a warm spring walk, and food, of course.
Every day her dreams get bigger, and bigger, until one day...they all come true!
A beautiful classic-in-the-making, Caldecott Honor Winner Elisha Cooper’s Emma Full of Wonders is a heartwarming and special read that will be cherished amongst readers young and old.
From Me:
In this beautiful book, Emma is a large dog full of little dreams. In other words, she is pregnant. It talks about Emma's dreams and her favorite activities. She loves singing, dancing, taking walks, and napping and of course eating. She dreams of these activities. Sometimes she does them and other times she is too tired and rests. Then one day all of her dreams come true when the seven puppies are born. She is no longer lonely and the puppies enjoy the same activities as Emma.
If you don't realize the storyline, you may have a surprise ending. The book is sweet and reminds me so much of my own pregnancy. The thoughts of life and dreams. I remember thinking about what I wanted to do with my baby. I also remember feeling lonely at times. Emma at times feels lonely as well. I remember those days full of energy and ready to conquer the world and those days of exhaustion and feeling like I couldn't get anything done. Emma goes through all of this. It is such a wonderful look at pregnancy for young children and the miracle of life.
This book will become a family favorite. It is just a sweet story and with so much to talk about from childbirth and the preparation that comes with it. I hope you will check it out!
