New Board Books for the Fall

Disclosure: I was sent copies of these books in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Fall is such a fun time of the year. I love the colors of the leaves and the crunch when you walk on them. Thanksgiving is approaching quickly. Today I get to share a round-up of board books including ones that are fall and Thanksgiving themed.  We will start with the very fall themed one. It is Jump in the Leaf Pile by Kelly Green and illustrated by Kasia Nowowiejska. It has surprise slide out leaf piles. It is recommended for ages 3 and up.

From the Publisher:

Celebrate the fall season with this adorable board book filled with sliding tab surprises that gives little fingers a tactile experience!

Rake up the leaf pile, scrape scrape trap
Jump in the leaf pile, crinkle crinkle snap

Rake, run, dance, play, and jump in the leaves. The sturdy board tabs slide in and out of this interactive book that pairs first concepts with autumn’s vibrant colors.

From Me:

This fun book is about colors and autumn. Each page is full of colorful illustrations with focus on one fall color. The words are about leaves and the colors: purple, red, orange, brown and yellow. Shake, turn, tip the pile of leaves to find the surprise slide outs. Kids will love this book. It is perfect for little ones learning their colors as well as talking about fall. It features vegetables and fruit in the illustrations along with multicultural kids and animals.

Autumn brings darker days. Many cultures look at ways to focus on light during these days. Our next book focuses on the light inside our eyes and from the stars. It is Light by Ruth Forman and illustrated by Katura Gaines. It is recommended for ages 3 and up.

From the Publisher:

A young boy’s eyes reflect the light of the universe in this luminous board book from bestselling author Ruth Forman!

My eyes
carry stars

my eyes
see you
and smile

A boy visits a planetarium with his father and brother for a night of stargazing that opens him to the infinitely bright universe.

From Me:

This is a sweet book sharing the light of the stars reflecting in a young boy's eyes. It reminds me of finding light in the dark days. The boy sees the light in his eyes but also in the stars at the planetarium and the night sky. It is a short and sweet book with the theme of light. It dances, reflects, laughs, sees far and clear, and smiles at the reader with a mirror in the end. It is a fun book that kids will love. I would say even younger than 3. It also introduces a planetarium to the reader as well as the stars.

Our next book is a fun Thanksgiving book. It is No Thanks Said Turkey by Jeffrey Burton and illustrated by Florence Weiser. Again, it is recommended for ages 3 and up.

From the Publisher:

Gobble up this hilarious board book bursting with holiday charm as Turkey turns down dinner invitations on Thanksgiving Day.

The table was set.
The feast ready to begin.
But the animals were missing
one very special friend.
Where was Turkey?

Thanksgiving has arrived, and Turkey’s friends invite him to come over and celebrate. But Turkey kindly denies every dinner invitation: “No, thanks.” What could the star of the day be up to? The animals decide to find out!

From Me:

Here is a fun Thanksgiving book. All the woodland animals want turkey to join their Thanksgiving, but turkey keeps turning them down. The animals keep trying but eventually follow turkey to a turkey gathering for Thanksgiving. The turkeys invite them all to join their feast. It is a fun book that may have other thoughts as to why the animals want the turkey at their table. Of course, they mention things like having pumpkin pie and such to turkey.  The turkeys announce their feast is for everyone and have the message of sharing and being thankful for each other. It is a fun Thanksgiving book. It reminds me of some of the books we read when Hazel was younger.

Our final book is more about the love of a mother. It is What's Mine Is Yours by Hannah Eliot and illustrated by Sally Walker. It is recommended for ages 2 to 4.

From the Publisher:

This lovely board book celebrates the joy of a new baby, motherhood, and the unconditional love that mother and child share.

My wonders…are yours.
My adventures…are yours.
My quiet…is yours.
My heart…is yours.

This sweet board book celebrates motherhood and just how much we give to our children, but also how much they give right back to us. It’s the perfect gift for a baby shower or any other special occasion!

From Me:

This is a sweet book celebrating the bond between a mother and child. As a mother everything in your life tends to turn to be your child's. Your time, your food, your energy and so much more. This book celebrates that. It shares how various things that are the mother's are also the child's and vice versa. Our smiles, our shoes, our struggles, our adventures, our quiet, etc. It is the perfect  book for a new mother. So if you know someone who just had a child or is about to be sure to check out this fun book and add it to your gift for her.
