Trusting Timothy: A Story About Cheating -- Book Review & Giveaway

Disclosure: I was sent a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I am working with The Children's Book Review and Expound Publicity to bring you this post. All opinions are my own.

It has been a while since I have done a Christian review. Today I get to share a fun picture book that shows following God's Word (Scripture) can help you be a better person and win. The book is Trusting Timothy: A Story About Cheating by Bobby Bryant II, Bobby Bryant III, Ava Bryant, and Joseph Bryant and illustrated by Tim Crecelius. This is a post that is part of The Children's Book Review Virtual Book Tour so that means there is a giveaway! I also am including some free scripture coloring pages to go with the book.

From Me:

This is a sweet book. Timothy goes to church with his grandmother and learns some new scripture there. He has just moved into a new town and is excited to make friends as the school year begins. However, the new friends he makes sometimes say and do things he is sure about. On two occasions he remembers the scriptures that he learned at church the last time he went and uses them to guide him to do what is right rather than cheat. In both situations his decision pays off as the other boys get found out and punished.

This book is a sweet story, but I think it will require an adult discussing Timothy's choices with a child and at least the scriptures. The three scriptures used in the story are Luke 8:17 New King James Version, Proverbs 11:3 New King James Version and Proverbs 10:9 New International Version. They have words the recommended age group may not know, so I would recommend this book be shared between an adult and child(ren). I suggest talking about what the scriptures mean and help the kids grasp the messages so they can understand Timothy's choices. However, without understanding the scriptures the story reads with Timothy feeling uncomfortable about his friends' choices of cheating on a test or cheating in a game in gym class and chooses to not follow them. In the end the teachers discover the cheating, and the friends get punished and Timothy does wins, so the message is there without the understanding of the scripture.

I see this book being read by a parent or caregiver or even in a Sunday School class. It is a wonderful story and demonstrates how understanding the Bible can help us make decisions each day and avoid doing the wrong thing. I can see discussions about choices and doing the right thing during and after the story happening which is always a good thing. To go with this book, I wanted to find something with the scriptures however I discovered there was not much out there that used the versions the book used, so I made some coloring pages in Canva for you. I made one for each of the scriptures because I know when I taught Sunday School the kids loved coloring pages like this one plus coloring the scripture will help the kids to learn it. You can download them here. Enjoy!
