On Tuesday I was scrolling through Instagram and came across this post from Rise Over Run. I was so excited!! I quickly changed the date on my white board to be 22/12/52 like her Instagram post. Some of the kids needed help understanding it. One of my middle school Algebra 1 kids thought it was great! He is one who often claims not to get the work and is always losing his homework or not completing it due to his executive functioning skills, but he quickly understood it.
When Wednesday came, I was disappointed it wasn't still a perfect square day. I put the day as 21. Then I realized Friday was another perfect square. It got me thinking about perfect squares and the date. It also got me thinking about how many perfect square days there are in April. Or how many months have perfect square days? Or how many years?I started thinking about what other days are perfect squares in April. Then what about other months and other years? This could be a fun class activity especially if you are studying perfect squares or exponents. I made up an activity sheet with some of my questions.
I made up an answer sheet to it here. I would love to hear how you use it and how it goes! We had fun with other dates here.
