Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
A few weeks ago I shared a middle grades book about the first trip to the moon and the amazing photograph of Earth. In that post I shared some pictures from our recent visit to Kennedy Space Center. Today I am sharing a fun book about a rocket, Artemis III to be exact and that turns into a toy rocket. The book is Read-and-Play Rocket by Bridget Heos and illustrated by Sona Avedikian. Even though it is a board book, it is recommended for ages 4 to 8. I would say the story itself if for the older side of this group.
From the Publisher:
This isn't just a book; it's a front-row seat to the thrilling race to a rocket launch! From the ingenious engines to the amazing astronauts to the controlled chaos of liftoff, every page is a heart-pounding countdown to blast off!But there's a twist: This book doesn't just tell you everything you’ve ever wanted to know about rockets–it also transforms into one! And launches your child's creativity into orbit with their very own rocket toy!
Just fan out the pages and clasp the covers together to build your own rocket--now it's your turn: 3, 2, 1.. BLAST OFF!
From Me:
This book is so fun!! It is full of information about NASA, rockets and more. It is "hosted" by Ham, the first chimpanzee in space. It includes information about rockets, astronaut training, as well as the space race and the moon. It is sharing about the upcoming mission, Artemis III. The details provided in this small book is truly amazing!
The really fun part is there is velcro on the front and back covers, so the book can be opened into a toy rocket to be played with! Kids can read and learn all about space, training and a mission and then "build" the rocket and go on their own adventures and missions!
At the end of the book there is a timeline of the race to the moon and then some of the people and animals who were firsts in space. The details in the book are amazing. They are shared both in the words and the illustrations.
This book is perfect for the space/rocket enthusiast. It is also perfect for a space unit resource. I can see kids loving it at home or in a classroom. Get ready to blast off!!
