Words -- Book Review & Giveaway

Disclosure: I was sent a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. I am working with The Children's Book Review and Riverlet Press to bring you this post.

Do you ever struggle with words? Perhaps you struggle to find the right ones? Do you remember struggling with words as a child? It was always so hard to find the right ones at the right time. I also went to speech therapy so there were words I just struggled to pronounce. Today I am sharing a book about words and how we use them. The book is Words by Kathrine Davis-Gibbon and illustrated by Anne Berry. There is a giveaway at the end of the post!

About the Book:

Words Written by Katherine Davis-Gibbon and Illustrated by Anne Berry

Ages: 4-6 | 36 Pages | Publisher: Riverlet Press (2025) | ISBN: 978-1-737957690

Publisher’s Book Summary: A multicultural group of children discovers a park where everyone’s words come to life, looking and behaving a lot like kids. Some words are kinder and more inviting, while others are pushy or prickly or odd. Not every word makes the best first impression, but as they play and share adventures, the children connect more deeply with language. They learn that words have superpowers and grow to love them for their quirks. They see that words make excellent friends, who magically appear just as they’re needed and perfectly mirror how kids feel. The more these children bond with language, the more they tap into their inner voice— and as they dare to give it expression, they gain more respect for the power of words.

From Me:

This book has a group of kids who find themselves in a magical park where the words come alive. The words are in the illustrations. Some are like people and others are hidden in the illustrations. The words to the story talk about how words are like people. Each one is unique and special. Some words are celebrations and some are not. Some are actions. The book describes how some words work together and how some do not. It shares how sometimes words hide from us or are hard to find. It also tells the reader that words are patient and understanding. They will give us second, third and more chances.

I love how there are words in the illustrations. Each time I look I see more words hidden in the illustrations. This will make it fun for kids to read and read again. It is also fun for the adult to look with them. This book is perfect for every child, but also the ones who struggle with words or finding the right ones. Kids who stumble with words or have trouble picking the right ones. This book shares how words will help you and love to reach out. There are words like love and hug but also words like blush and angry. It is a wonderful book to share the emotions we all feel and the words to describe them. I can see this as a fun book to read aloud at home or in a class where the kids can see the pictures.
